Holidays

What are everyone's plans for the holidays? I've been looking at airfares and they seem pretty expensive. So, we're still undecided.

Also-- what is the game plan for the gift exchange this year?

Dad's New Toy

Hey - guess what I bought! Hint - see above. It's a Sonex, - 2 place, all metal, aerobatic capable, top speed 138 mph. And I can legally fly it. It's not a kit, but a completed plane, ready to fly. That's its actual photo above.

I'll be keeping it at Lewisburg, TN, about 30 miles south of here. Since it's a tailwheel plane, rather than a tricycle gear with a nose wheel, I will have to take some additional instruction before I can fly it. These will have to be in another plane until I have 10 hours flight time. I have had 2 lessons in a tailwheel plane so far, and will need about 8 more. The insurance company then requires that I have another 25 hours before it will insure me. It will take somewhere between 1 and 6 months to get all of this done, depending on weather and availability of an instructor. After that I can start coming to see you all more often. I don't mind how long it will take to complete the instruction, because that will all be flying time and fun.

Originally 2 other guys were going to go together with me in owning it, but one of them decided that he could not afford it right now, and the other was concerned that he couldn't learn to fly the tailwheel, so it's all mine for now. The other guys may come in later. In the meantime, the one guy said I could keep it in his hangar. The other guy is an instructor, so I hope to be able to trade off his instruction for allowing him to use the plane.
